Antony Price, Famed for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.
Price was best known for his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
His passing follows just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
After a career spanning more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.
