Former Doctor Charged with Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Legal authorities report that a ex- physician has been charged with carrying out sexual assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.

The Serious Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – some of which involve some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.

A senior CPS official stated, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges follow what investigators called a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors outline the forty-five charges comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.

Police have asked anyone with concerns to get in touch with the investigating team.
