New Year's Celebrants Advised to Bundle Up with Snowfall Forecast Across the UK
Forecasters have indicated a chilly commencement to the new year, with snow expected over large parts of the UK. Revelers are being urged to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Celebratory Plans Continue Despite Forecasts
The Scottish capital's renowned Hogmanay events are planned to go ahead, following last year's calling-off. This proceeds amid advisories for snow over northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve evening for those who are celebrating, so warmer clothes will be necessary," said the national forecaster.
Fireworks Under Open but Cold Skies
Elsewhere in the UK, the weather is likely to be suited to fireworks celebrations, with no rain and good visibility. Temperatures are due to be chilly, so extra layers vital, according to forecasters.
To the north, conditions will be cloudier, but this is unlikely to affect visibility for seeing fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Extensive Snow Warnings for New Year's Day
As we enter Friday, snow alerts have been issued across Northern Ireland and from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and most of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Forecast to Drop Further
As 2026 begins, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are expected to plummet as snowfall and high winds are likely to hit the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow is forecast to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, potentially hitting 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Medical Advisories Activated
At the same time, amber-level health advisories have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to stay active until noon on 5 January, with temperatures forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Officials stated this signified the weather could to trigger notable consequences across health and social care services. This involves a likely increase in the mortality rate among the elderly or unwell or those 65 and older.
