The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.
This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the official score of the same name, the second release released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
Personally, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of the second series, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
