The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
