Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Might Finish... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and a second season already in development—the creative team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Viewer Reception

One could easily to get distracted by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's by design. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Does the showrunner Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
